Start from where you are.
Grow from there.
If it doesn't make sense to the people it's meant for,
it doesn't work.
What works on paper has to work in real life.
An organization can have strong policies, dedicated staff and the best intentions, but that doesn't always mean people are having the experience those things were meant to create.
How staff work together, how decisions are made and how services are delivered all shape what people experience, both within an organization and in the communities it serves.
People and Relationships
How people communicate, work together, navigate difficult conversations and experience the workplaces and communities they're part of.
Practices Rooted in Care
Looking beyond what policies and procedures say to understand how they actually work for the people using them.
Context Matters
What works for one organization or community won't necessarily work for another. Rural communities, in particular, face challenges that aren't always understood by people working outside them. Understanding the relationships, resources and realities of each community is essential to making meaningful change.
The Person Behind Do Better
Stevi Gerrior (they/them)
Founder & Lead Consultant
I've spent more than a decade working across frontline services, community organizations, education and advocacy. My experience includes leading diversity and inclusion initiatives, developing and delivering training, contributing to panels and supporting people through difficult situations.
Through that work, I've seen how much can happen between what an organization sets out to do and what people actually experience.
I'm also Inuk, queer and non-binary, and I was born and raised in rural Nova Scotia. I know what it's like to live in a community where resources are stretched, staff wear multiple hats and everybody seems to know everybody. I also know how much harder that can make it to figure out where it's safe to turn for support, especially when you're part of a marginalized community.
That perspective comes with me into every room I work in. I understand the pressures organizations are under, but I also know why the experiences of the people relying on those organizations can't get lost in the process.
